NAIST awarded Dr. Jiayang Li, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an Honorary Doctoral Degree in a ceremony on November 7th, which was followed with a commemorative lecture from Vice President Li. The Honorary Doctoral Degree is an award recognizing contributions made by scientists towards internationalization at NAIST. Vice President Li is the fourth recipient of this Honorary Doctoral Degree.
Vice President Li is a world renowned Chinese researcher in the field of plant molecular biology. He has long been associated with Professor Ko Shimamoto of the Graduate School of Biological Sciences, NAIST through their research. In addition, he was involved in our Global COE Program from the planning stages and actively supported cooperation between the School and IGDB (the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology Chinese Academy of Sciences), one of the leading research institutes of biology in China. Even after the completion of the Global COE Program in 2012, we are planning to continue this close relationship including the mutual exchange of faculty and students. This award is for his great contributions.
About 200 faculty members and students attended his lecture and all were enthralled by his passionate presentation. The ceremony was a great success.
