A one-day excursion to Kyoto for international students took place on Sunday, October 18, to give an opportunity to students to deepen the knowledge of Japanese history and culture and to develop their good relationship with each other.
The group of 40 students first visited World Heritage Ninna-ji Temple and looked around the buildings including shinden (imperial family's residence), kondo (golden hall) and goju-no-to (5-story pagoda). Above all, students were amazed by a beautiful landscape garden in shinden.
The　group next went to Arashiyama Togetsukyo. They strolled around the bridge and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of river and mountains.
The last activity is making "nerikiri", one of the Japanese traditional sweets served at tea ceremony. Although a delicate technique is required for making wagashi, students struggled but enjoyed creating their own handmade products.
The excursion ended successfully as students deepened their understanding of Kyoto's old history and Japanese traditional culture through hands-on experience.
