A commemorative lecture was held on December 1st in honor of the 30th anniversary of Nara International Exchange Promotion Committee, and along with this there were also Japanese culture events and a speech contest for international students. More than 60 international students from universities in Nara prefecture joined the event, and from NAIST there were 10 international students who participated.

First, the students were able to experience Sado (tea ceremony), Shodo (calligraphy) and Kitsuke (wearing Kimono) as part of the Japanese culture events. For Sado, they enjoyed eating Japanese sweets and drinking Matcha while being taught manners for tea ceremony by the Sado instructor in the calm Japanese style room. For Shodo, students enjoyed writing their name and their favorite Kanji. For Kitsuke, they went around the campus taking memorial group photos after they were dressed in their Kimonos.

Second, they were able to try making Nigirizushi, the traditional hand-formed sushi. They put Itamae hats on their heads and wore Happi coats like a Sushi chef, and they were taught how to make sushi by the instructors. After making Nigirizushi, they ate it at lunchtime and took the pictures with instructors. There were smiles on everyone's face throughout the experience.

Third, a commemorative lecture and speech contest were held at the Memorial Hall. In the speech contest, 8 international students from different universities talked about their experiences or thoughts in Japanese fluently, so the contest was very competitive.

Finally, an international exchange party was held at the cafeteria. NAIST's and other students developed bonds throughout the day, and they all enjoyed talking with each other at this closing event. Everyone felt that the event's objective of "deepening cultural understanding and contributing to exchange activities for international students in the Nara area" was achieved.
