To broaden international students' knowledge and deepen their interactions with one another through exposure to Japanese culture and history, We conducted an international student excursion on October 19th.
Forty-three international students experienced dressing in a Kimono, Japanese traditional ethnic costume, in Arashiyama, Kyoto. They then strolled along the Bamboo Grove Path, a scenic spot in the same area, while wearing their kimono. Although some students seemed slightly hesitant in the unfamiliar straw sandals, the experience was a valuable opportunity to engage with Japanese history directly. They also visited the historic temple Tenryū-ji in Arashiyama. Through viewing not only the main hall but also the Sōgen-chi Garden and the dry landscape garden, they learned about Japan's national culture, which developed from the Heian period through the Muromachi period.
Although the morning was slightly chilly due to the previous day's rain, the exchange students highly praised the trip, commenting, "It was a chance to learn deeply about Japanese history," and "Experiencing the beautiful Kimono made me even more interested in Japanese culture." The trip also fostered lively interaction among the students, making it a significant excursion.
