Opening Remarks by Hiroko Shiraishi (Career Services Office, NAIST)

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Career Services Office of Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), in collaboration with The University of Osaka, hosted the Global Talent Networking Event 2026 at The University of Osaka Nakanoshima Center. In recent years, an increasing number of companies have shown interest in hiring highly skilled international talent. However, opportunities for direct interaction between employers and international students remain limited. To address this gap, the event was designed to provide a platform where students and company representatives could engage in meaningful conversations and build mutual understanding.

The event featured a booth-style networking format, allowing students to speak directly with participating companies. Representatives from a wide range of industries including pharmaceuticals, information and communications technology, research and development, manufacturing, and retail joined the event. Many companies were accompanied by international employees who shared their personal experiences of working in Japan, providing valuable role models and insights for the students.

To ensure accessibility, companies offered English-language presentations and materials, creating an environment where international students could comfortably learn about business operations, workplace culture, and recruitment expectations. Students actively introduced their research, academic backgrounds, and career interests while engaging with company representatives.

Participants commented that the event helped them gain a better understanding of Japanese corporate culture and working styles. Several students also noted that they obtained information about internship opportunities and were motivated to consider applying in the future. The event therefore served not only as an opportunity for networking, but also as a catalyst for concrete career actions.

The NAIST Career Services Office is committed to creating opportunities for international students to connect with industry and society, enabling them to fully utilize their expertise and potential. We will continue to expand English-friendly events and inclusive career support initiatives that help international students explore career pathways, deepen their understanding of employers, and build successful careers in Japan.
