In university-level instruction carried out in English, there is a global trend of moving away from an instructor-centered approach toward a more student-centered style of teaching (SCT). At the same time, expectations about students' orientation towards learning have been shifting to place emphasis on student ownership of the learning process, exemplified by project-based learning (PBL). Initially, SCT and PBL were only used in small graduate seminars but have since spread to other domains including large undergraduate science courses, where they are currently employed to great effect by many professors. In this seminar, we will examine successful applications of SCT and PBL in the STEM fields, investigate how this could be carried out in NAIST's classrooms, and discuss directions for the future.

【Introduction】
Abram Jones has been instructing English for Science and Technology at the University of California at Davis since 2012 and in recent years has taught several NAIST graduate students and professors. Abram's research and teaching focus on project-based instruction of second languages.
He holds master's degrees in education and linguistics.
Open to NAIST Faculty and staff, Ph.D students seeking careers in academia※, Master students considering pursuing a Ph.D
