NAIST accepts those who meet the following criteria as international Visiting Researchers, as based on the NAIST Visiting Researcher Acceptance Regulations.
Persons eligible for acceptance as a Visiting Researcher must be recognized as having the title of Professor, Associate Professor, (Full-time) Lecturer, Assistant Professor, or the equivalent, and must be one of the following.
- A researcher invited by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
- A researcher invited through an international exchange program of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science
- A researcher invited through the Follow-up Research Fellowship of the Japanese Student Services Organization
- A researcher accepted through an exchange program of a foreign government, international organization or other public organization
- In addition to being a researcher stipulated in one of the previous 4 items, the researcher is to be deemed appropriate to promote international academic exchange
International Visiting Researchers are accepted through NAIST faculty members, so interested researchers should contact faculty members directly to discuss research possibilities and opportunities.

Orientation upon arrival to Japan
Center for International Students and Scholars (CISS) provides individual orientations for international Visiting Researchers visiting Japan to provide information on administrative procedures and living in Japan. Please contact CISS to arrange an orientation to make the most of your stay in Japan, especially if staying longer.
