NAIST participated in the Virtual Study in Japan Fair specializing in IT fields for prospective Russian students hosted by Hokkaido University

 On February 27, a Virtual Study in Japan Fair specializing in IT fields organized by Hokkaido University was held online under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) commissioned project "Study in Japan Overseas Base Collaboration Promotion Project (Russia / CIS Base)". The Division for Global Education participated in this fair for Russian students for the first time with the cooperation of NAIST's students from Russian Federation, Mr. Igor Zavialov (Mathematical Informatics Laboratory, D1) and Mr. Nikolay Popov (Computational Neuroscience Laboratory, M1). Following the Zoom webinar introductory presentation, a "NAIST consultation booth" was set up to respond to questions and inquiries from participants.
 In the first part of the fair, the Zoom webinar attracted about 150 students from famous science and technology universities in Russia, such as Bauman Moscow State Technical University, St. Petersburg ITMO University, and Novosibirsk State Technical University, along with NAIST's partner university, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. Following an overview of studying in Japan given by the Hokkaido University Russia Moscow Office coordinator, Igor, who completed his master's degree at NAIST and is continuing his studies in the doctoral program here, gave a presentation about NAIST, information science research and education here, and life on campus.
 Nine students participated in NAIST consultation booth in the second part of the fair which consisted of a lively exchange of opinions and information. In particular, many questions were asked concerning details of the MEXT scholarship system, such as the examination and selection process and when to contact the laboratories and academic advisors of Japanese universities. Igor and Nikolay gave firsthand advice based on their own experiences. In addition, there were inquiries about laboratories in software engineering and media informatics, and questions about specific research contents such as programming languages in aeronautical engineering. We were very impressed with the Russian participants strong motivation to continue their studies and research at graduate schools of science and technology.
 Starting with this opportunity to participate in the Virtual Study in Japan Fair specializing in the IT fields, we would like to expand our various international student recruitment activities to increase the number of talented students from Russia, which has rich history in science and technology education.
