CES 2020

【Exhibition Information】 CES 2020 (2020/1/7~1/10)

NAIST will hold several demonstrations at the JAPAN TECH booth in "CES 2020", a technology and innovation event to be held from January 7 to January 10, 2020 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas, USA. The details of the demonstrations can be found below.

Robotics Laboratory, Division of Information Science, Graduate School of Science and Technology

Exhibition theme: "A framework for quickly deploying image recognition AI: Fully Automated Annotation With Noise-Masked Visual Markers for Deep-Learning-Based Object Detection"

Associate Professor Jun Takamatsu, and Mr. Takuya Kiyokawa (Robotics Laboratory doctoral student)

Robot's smart eyes are essential in automated factories. Up-to-date smart AI achieves them if it is able to be trained. However, training such AI requires a huge amount of correct answer datasets. To do this, human workers spend much time taking pictures of target objects and annotating the images with the answers such as target object locations. Our technology reduces the burdensome tasks the workers face and truly makes AI smarter.

Optical Media Interface Laboratory, Division of Information Science, Graduate School of Science and Technology

Exhibition theme:  "A practical device for imaging blood vessels in human skin in real-time with excellent contrast visibility"

Assistant Professor Hiroyuki Kubo

We developed a new imaging technique that captures and analyzes components of indirect light via light transport using a synchronized projector-camera system. Using our system, we are able to capture live short- and long-range indirect light transport, disambiguate subsurface scattering and diffuse and specular interreflections, and distinguish materials according to their subsurface scattering properties. In particular, we show the applicablity of indirect imaging for capturing and analyzing the hidden structure of veins in human skin.
Note: This is collaborative work with Carnegie Mellon University, Arizona State University and NAIST.

Photonic Device Science Laboratory, Division of Materials Science, Graduate School of Science and Technology

Exhibition theme:  "Portable Agri-Microimager"

Assistant Professor Makito Haruta

We have developed a realtime monitoring system for living plants. This system monitors physiological activity and growth information quantitatively. It sends data to the cloud by wireless technology for analysis. The analysis of this data is expected to contribute to improving agricultural efficiency. The growth information collected by wireless technology can be efficiently utilized by analyzing it on the cloud, and contribute to agricultural technology development.
