NAIST and Ikoma City have organized this special event to experience traditional culture that is directly related to the historic Takayama area. In the first part of the event, students will plant rice seedlings along with Ikoma citizens. This will be in rice paddies, so be prepared to get a little wet or dirty and enjoy the sun and water, and the mud!
Afterwards, we will move to the Takayama Chikurin-en, which has a tea room, divide into 2 groups, and relax and enjoy some tea and a Japanese treat. (Takayama Chikurin-en is a locally run museum and garden that introduces tea and tea whisk culture and history.)
Rice planting by hand is rare so please take advantage of this event to experience firsthand how rice used to be produced. In the fall, we hope to hold a harvest event as well if all goes well!
