On November 18th, 12 high school students and 2 supervising teachers from Malaysia visited NAIST as part of the "Japan-Malaysia Exchange Project 2015~open up our future with our hands〜," organized by the National Soni Youth Outdoor Learning Center.
The aim of this visit was for the students gain a thorough understanding of graduate education, especially at NAIST, as well as learning about and experiencing Japan. Before tours of the laboratories, the students introduced themselves and this was followed by NAIST's general introduction by Executive Director/Vice President Dr. Mikio Kataoka. The students attentively listened to the explanation of the cutting-edge research being performed at our graduate schools and the NAIST students' daily lives.
Following prayer and lunch in the kenshu hall, the group went to each gradate school to experience and understand of our rich research environment, with the assistance of two of our international students from Malaysia. The students experienced a demonstration of big-data usage in our daily lives, looked through a high-performance microscope to see cells, and showed much interest, asking many questions about various research and technology topics.
Their visit to NAIST as part of the MEXT-commissioned program was a meaningful experience for all those involved.
