2024 Disaster Prevention Seminar for International Students (10/11/2024)

2024/10/29

On Friday, October 11, a disaster prevention seminar for international students was held in Kenshu hall, with a total of 32 international students participating.

Due to its climate and geographical conditions, Japan is prone to earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, typhoons, heavy rains, and other disasters, making it one of the world's most disaster-prone regions. However, some international students come from countries and regions where disasters like these do not occur, so this seminar was held to raise awareness of disaster prevention.

In this seminar, former NHK WORLD-JAPAN newscasters and others explained disaster prevention tips, actions to take in the event of a disaster, and how to obtain disaster prevention information from NHK WORLD-JAPAN, using a mixture of English and easy-to-understand Japanese. Afterwards, participants used VR goggles to experience a magnitude 7 earthquake and indoor damage.

In addition to this event, NAIST offers a short presentation about natural disasters in the international student orientations and holds a fire drill every year to ensure students know what to do in an emergency.
